Gusset bags and flat-bottom (quad-seal) bags with one-way degassing valves are widely used for whole bean and ground coffee because they release CO2 while blocking oxygen and moisture ingress. Form-fill-seal pouches suit high-volume automated filling lines, while retort pouches serve shelf-stable liquid coffee products.

Common formats include gusset bags, flat-bottom quad-seal bags, form-fill-seal pouches, and three-side seal pillow packs. These can include zippers for resealability, degassing valves for freshness, clear windows for product visibility, and spouts or tin-ties depending on the coffee format being packaged.

Coffee packaging should have low water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) and oxygen transmission rate (OTR) to prevent moisture and oxygen from degrading flavor and aroma. Barrier film structures and lamination can be specified based on the coffee product, storage conditions, and desired shelf life.
